PostSubject: Footloose (Luna)   Footloose (Luna) Icon_minitimeSun Dec 08, 2013 9:25 pm

It seemed to be rare when Sky found herself with any time to herself lately. With so much going on both in her life and in her head, sometimes she wondered how she even remembered to breathe. Though there was much for her to reflect on, it was the last thing she wanted to do. What she wanted to do was to either take her frustrations out or to have some fun.

Normally, she would go for a fly, but since she seemed to have found herself in one of those rare moments of loneliness, the brunette decided to do something she had hoped she would get the chance to do since first laying eyes on the majestic castle. Explore it.

Ever since seeing the castle, she had been itching to  search for all it's hidden treasures, and discover it's secrets. So far though, the only things she had managed to find was her ways between classrooms and such. Now that she had a little time on her hands, she thought it the perfect opportunity to put her problems and worries on the back burner and wander the castle.

She made her way from the dungeons, most commonly known as Slytherin territory, after depositing her book bag and changing from her school uniform into a pair of form fitting jeans and plain black v-neck tee, keeping her Slytherin robes on but leaving them open to display her muggle-like ensemble. Her black and white converse sneakers adorned her feet, and her prefect badge was pinned to her robes, her trusty wand tucked behind her right ear as was customary for the violet eyed, untraditional snake.

Dinner wasn't for a few hours, and this was probably a good time better spent on the pile of schoolwork she still needed to finish, or to seek out one her friends, but Skyler didn't feel like doing either at the moment. After a good half an hour, the brunette found herself on the fifth floor, exploring it's array of used and unused classrooms. She entered one only to find a decently large group of various musical instruments, and stands for sheet music. The teen had heard rumor Hogwarts had a choir and such, but hadn't had much time to consider it really.

She entered the room fully to better cease the opportunity to investigate the music room, and randomly touched and observed the different instruments. As the Slytherin made her way around the room, her eyes caught and zeroed in on a box-like object with dials and buttons, and a wide grin spread across her lips as she moved towards it. She only knew what it was because she had had one at home, because from an early age the teen had had a sort of obsession with music and though the girl couldn't play an instrument to save her life, and her singing voice was not anything to brag about, she loved to sing along to songs when she knew the words.

It was the magical equivalent to a muggle radio, and the brunette excitedly flipped it on, immediately turning dials to hopefully find something worth listening to. As luck would have it, a song she recognized was playing, and every word came racing to the front of her mind. She turned it louder, her grin growing from ear to ear as she glanced around, making sure she was still alone, before she began to sing along to one of her favorite songs.

"Hey pretty baby with the high heels on
You give me fever
Like I've never, ever known
You're just a product of loveliness
I like the groove of your walk
Your talk, your dress.."

The brunette started to really get into the song, and started dancing around the room to the beat as she continued to sing along, pretending she was on a stage performing instead of just dancing around a school classroom. It might have been comical except the Slytherin was really having fun, and it showed in her choreography as she jumped on top of a desk to dance on it belting out the chorus of the song.

"The way you make me feel
You really turn me on
You knock me off my feet
My lonely days are gone.."

As Skyler carried on with her impromptu musical show, he never noticed the door to the room open as someone else entered it, too wrapped up in her good time to really think or care about anyone else at the moment.

Ever since she was a little girl one thing had been able to cheer Luna up when all else failed, and that was music. Her mother had loved to sing and dance around the house, and some kind of music accompanied basically everything she did, to the point that it was one of the first things that both Luna and her father associated with the witch. After her death, Luna had not been able to hear a musical note without crying for months, and to this day music was still banned from the house as one of the growing number of things that her father would not tolerate under any circumstances. It was the first thing on the top of the list as far as the blonde girl remembered.

This ban affected Luna’s life at Hogwarts only so far as that she was banned from taking Music classes as her second elective class like she had wanted to. Care of Magical Creatures, as the only other thing she really loved was fine, but her father had insisted that she take Arithmancy, as it was a useful and thoughtful subject, instead of being able to follow her heart to the music room every week.

Still, the man couldn’t stop her from coming here to unwind anytime times got to tough, something she had been doing since winter of her second year. Along the way she had learned to play the violin and the flute from others who frequented the room, going so far as to save every penny she could for two years to buy a used flute which lived in the music room year round so that her father didn’t have to hear it.

Now times were rough again. She had no idea what to do about Sibes and her feelings for her, or the things she had said about Luna’s father, or the war that her friends spent so much time whispering about when no one was listening, or anything, really. She just needed to dance and unwind. So she headed to her safe place.

And naturally, found a girl already there who she had never run into before. A girl who was in Slytherin, the house that generally tormented and harassed the rest of the school. Still, her experiences with Slytherins this year were better than normal and this girl seemed from a distance to be safe. Plus, the song she was singing and dancing around to had a nice beat. She would have to risk it.

She bopped along to the song a little, trying to let go of her troubles some. Unfortunately, she had come in near the end of the song, so she hadn’t exactly released much stress before it began to wind down. She supposed she should take the temporary quietness to announce herself, so that the other girl didn’t discover her on her own and think the blonde had snuck up on her. “Do you dance around on your own often, Miss Riddle” Luna called to the dark haired girl. She took it for granted that the whole school knew the both of them, so that they wouldn’t need to bother with actual introductions. This method was more straight and to the point.

To say Skyler was surprised might have been an understatement, as her head snapped over toward the sound of a voice so fast she was sure she cricked her neck in the process. "Ow." She muttered more to herself than anything else, reaching up with a hand to rub her aching neck, face taking on a pinkish hue at having been caught in dance. The brunette wasn't exactly a dancer, nor a singer, which was why the teen usually saved such embarrassing actions for her own free time. She never did either in the of another person. Merlin! She did enough to embarrass herself without adding that to the list.

But what she lacked in talent Sky made up for with good graces and humor, and therefore she never really got embarrassed to the point where she wanted to get swallowed up by the very ground and die. Typically the girl would laugh at herself along with everyone else, so in this case the Slytherin laughed lightly, hopping down from the table only to perch on it's edge, her legs dangling over it as she flashed a wide grin to the blonde girl. A Ravenclaw, if Sky wasn't mistaken. She recognized her from classes because she was in the same year as her. "Luna, right?" She questioned just to be sure, though she was honestly pretty positive she got the name pegged to the face right.

Using her hand to move the few dark locks of long, wavy hair from her face where they had fell from her dancing, Skyler nodded to the blonde girl even as she answered, not at all phased by the fact that the girl knew who she was. She had gotten used to that at Hogwarts, since sharing the name with an extremely notorious dark wizard. "Sometimes. Not as often as I would like to, but often enough. I'm not much of a dancer as you probably saw so I tend to only do it alone. But occasionally I like to do it in front of others just to make them laugh." The brunette ended off with a shrug, grinning from ear to ear and purple eyes bright from the exertion of dancing as she focused on the small blonde girl.

Skyler knew Luna was another friend of Harry's and Ginny's, and maybe that was one reason for her being so open to the other girl. Then again, the teen rarely hid anything mostly because she didn't have anything much to hide. Well, with the exception of a few plans and such. But somehow she just found it easier to strike up conversation when one wasn't so completely closed off. Call her gullible, or naive, but Sky found one tended to catch more flies with honey than with vinegar, and a smile could ultimately be just as dangerous as a sneer. Especially in her case.

"How about you?" She questioned back, cocking her head curiously at the other girl. She figured it was a valid question, and she didn't really know what else to say to the blonde. But Sky was very curious about this Ravenclaw, mainly because she already felt a sort of kinship with her due to the fact that they both seemed to be outcasts so to speak, even if for different reasons. The teen had heard various different people use the term "Loony" for the girl, and had happily docked some points for it too. But naturally it did make her wonder why people seemed to think the blonde strange.

Luna wandered over to stand near where the dark haired girl was sitting as she talked. Then she bounced from one foot to the other, matching the rhythm of her speech to calm herself a little more. There was music in everything, if you looked hard enough for it. She nodded at her name, though it could have just as easily been part of her weird little dance, so the other girl might or might not pick up on the confirmation.

She couldn’t help but laugh at the girl’s statement of her dancing, though she stopped short when she realized that Miss Riddle was serious. “You dance out of passion, which makes your dancing incredibly beautiful,” she said airily. “Anyone who would make fun of you for your passion is only masking the fact that they don’t understand.”

She smiled serenely for a moment before she remembered that she needed to answer the other girl’s return of her question. “I also prefer to dance alone, because many of our fellow students like to laugh at me no matter what I do.” She paused, trying to find a way to word it to show that it was just how things were, not something that upset her. “Rather than try to understand people who are different, they mock them in hopes that we will all be the same and they won’t have to think. I only really come and dance when there is no other way to feel better. There are people who don’t care for me in here too often.

With that, she began bopping her head as if the tune that was playing when she came in was still going. “Please do not let me get in the way of your passions and whatever brings you here to release them, Miss Riddle.” The blonde was sure that there was more that she should say, but not really knowing the other girl, she had no idea what that might be and she did not want to offend her by trying to guess at them. Maybe that was part of why Luna had so few friends, but she would rather keep to herself and things she knew than force herself into the other girl’s world if she did not actually belong there.

Skyler's purple eyes watched curiously as the blonde headed in her direction, and the brunette cocked her head to the side, thinking on the girl's words. If she were being honest, the teen didn't find the Ravenclaw that odd. Sure, the girl bounced without music, but Skyler was sure stranger things had been known to happen. Besides, her voice was musical enough in the brunette's opinion, and Sky found Luna refreshingly different and interesting in the first couple of minutes since she had formally met her.

"Huh. I guess I never thought about it that way." Her eyes took on a faraway look as she considered the blonde's words, and then Sky shrugged and grinned at the girl widely. "I like your description of my dancing better than mine and everyone else's though, so I think we'll stick with that." The brunette winked at the blonde, laugh tinkling throughout the room when it rang out. All laughing stopped when Luna answered her question and the Slytherin frowned.

Why did people have to be so idiotic? Rolling her eyes, Sky offered the Ravenclaw a friendly and open grin, hoping to convey that she was not going to be lumped in with the brainless idiots of the school. "Well, I happen to think most of the people in this school are idiots in that case then." She stated simply, not bothering to add on that she had already considered the masses idiots. Now they were just doubly so in Skyler's mind. "Though you shouldn't let them keep you away from things you like. It's not fair to you."

The brunette added, nodding to reinforce her opinion on that matter. It was clear to her that the blonde liked music, and just avoided it because other people got in the way. It wasn't fair, and Skyler always called them how she saw them. She couldn't really understand why anyone would treat the girl before her so, since she seemed pretty harmless and nice, if a bit different. Being different herself though, Sky enjoyed that fact, and could show appreciation for others who didn't stay within the box others tried to place them in.

Watching when Luna started bopping her head to the now nonexistent tune, a genuine smile tugged at the brunette's lips. She couldn't help but snort when the blonde referred to her as Miss Riddle. How formally wrong it sounded. Skyler shook her head at the blonde, grinning. "Sky. Call me Sky. Miss Riddle is what the professors use, and I'd rather not place you on the same shelf as that. Since you're obviously much too fun to be on a shelf." Winking again, the teen hopped down from the table and crossed her arms over her chest, leaning her hip against it. "So. What's got you feeling so bad then?" She asked, letting her honest interest show through on her face. "You said you only come here to dance when nothing else makes you feel better, so I assume something has you feeling bad." Skyler explained her question simply.

Luna’s smile as she was encouraged to call the other girl something more familiar was a little bit sheepish. She was still getting used to being treated like a person of value instead of some terror to be locked away somewhere and then brought out every so often to ridicule, even if people in general were being better to her this year. Accepting that people might actually want her around was a process.

The blonde privately doubted that the people who didn’t like her were idiots. There were so many more of them than people who were nice to her, after all. It was more logical to assume that there was something wrong with her and that the people who were nice to her either didn’t notice it or had something wrong with them as well. Still, after what Sibes had said to her, she knew better than to say any of this out loud. Besides, Sky had called her fun and she didn’t want to disappoint her.

She also didn’t want to talk about her problems yet, even if she wanted them solved more than anything. “There is a time for dancing, and there is a time for worry about problems and they can never be the same time, Sky,” the blonde said brightly. “Today is for dancing and feeling better. Some different day will be for solving the problem.” Luna said all of this cheerfully, like she was explaining the most simple and beautiful concept in the world.

With that she waves her wand at the radio, making sure there was danceable music again. “Dance with me and let the worry out,” she said happily, swaying her hips to the new beat.

Skyler didn't know whether to be amused by the Ravenclaw, or to take her seriously. In the end, a bemused look took presence on her face. Luna was quite...unique. Yes. That was the word. While the brunette could see why it might make others feel uncomfortable, the blonde had the opposite effect on Sky. She felt quite comfortable in the other girl's presence, and she found she enjoyed odd way in which she spoke, as if dazed.

The teen watched as the blonde put the music back on, a different tune now playing but one that was danceable. If one knew how to actually dance. Skyler couldn't say she really did. For a moment the brunette looked unsure and rubbed the back of her neck in a nervous manner. She didn't normally dance in front of other people, but Luna seemed like the last person on earth who would judge her for it if she looked like an idiot doing it. Which she probably would.

Shrugging carelessly, Sky figured what the hell. She was tired of thinking of her problems anyways and the Ravenclaw did have a point. "I guess one day of not trying to solve impossible problems couldn't hurt." She commented with a wry grin, beginning to move with the rythym as well. It was kind of nice actually, and freeing, to be able to move however one wanted and look like an idiot like she probably did with no one there to judge. Atleast, she hoped the blonde girl wouldn't judge her. If she did though, well, Sky didn't really care. After all, it had been Luna's idea to dance anyways. "Do you have a favorite kind of music?" She asked curiously, thinking that there was no reason that conversation couldn't take place as well. Otherwise she might feel awkward.

For a moment Luna had been sure that Sky was going to make fun of her like everyone else always had when she suggested doing something that they weren’t already going to do, or look at her like she had sprouted an extra head, like even her few friends tended to do when she had an idea they hadn’t thought of. She was so used to being the crazy one who talked about impossible things that it was actually a shock when her new friend, because that was how she saw her already, relaxed and started dancing again.

She thought it would be distracting to talk and not just dance, since she hadn’t had the opportunity to dance with someone in so long, but considered the question anyway. “My favorite music to dance to is anything with enough drums to really get moving.” That answered the question as it were, but it was always best to give a little extra of yourself when someone friendly asked a question. “My favorite music to play on my flute is marches. I like sad songs on the violin.”

With that Luna went back to dancing, but something stuck in her mind that she had to ask, even if it broke the mood, which it probably would. She was never good at knowing the right time and place to say things. “Why do you listen to me? Almost no one listens to a word I say, and when they do, it is never this polite and nice.”

Sky cocked her head as she moved her body to the beat, not really paying much attention to the way her body moved. She just did what felt normal. If she looked like an idiot she didn't give any indication that she either noticed or cared as she considered the answer her newest friend had provided her.

The brunette supposed the drum thing made enough sense when she thought about it. The beat in the song playing made it easy enough to find a rhythm to move to. She nodded to the rest, which looked like an awkward movement during her little dance, which she still couldn't believe she was doing.

Skyler filed away the information she learned about the Ravenclaw though, regarding the flute and violin. She herself didn't play any instruments, but she did enjoy classical music, something most people probably wouldn't guess. It was very moving music when one closed their eyes and let themselves be washed away by it. She did wish she could play an instrument though. Maybe one day when the world made a little more sense she would find the time for such a thing.

The teen found herself halting in her movements, cocking her head to the side again with a look that was somewhere between thoughtful and confused on her face. "Well...I guess because you make sense?" Sky rubbed the back of her neck awkwardly. "I mean, atleast to me you do." The brunette shrugged gracefully, not really sure what else she could say to that question. "I don't like being mean to people I like Luna. And I rather like you." She added on as an afterthought, offering the blonde girl a friendly smile.

Luna gaped and entirely forgot to dance, standing still with her mouth open like a freshly caught fish. This Sky girl was really something incredibly special. She said that Luna made sense. Even Harry and his friends had never accused her of such a thing. The dark girl who she was trying so hard to impress certainly seemed to understand what the blonde was and what she wanted, but she had never gone so far as to say that her words and actions made sense. No one had said anything close to that to her since she was a little girl and her mother was alive.

“I…I like you too, Sky,” Luna said, very happy and very bemused. “I have no desire to ever be mean to you in any way. If I ever am, please tell me.” It didn’t really show, but Luna was fighting something of a war with her emotions here. The Slytherin girl was just so nice, and snakes were not supposed to behave that way. They were supposed to hiss and bite and say mean things when you weren’t looking to see who said them.

She needed to go. If Slytherins could be like this, there was no reason left to doubt her own dark Slytherin or to question anything that she said. It was time to go figure out what Luna needed to do for things to work there, which meant the time for dancing had ended and the time for studying and doing was upon her.

Before she left, she closed the distance between herself and the other girl, hugging her hard. “I very much want to be your friend, Skyler Riddle,” she said brightly. “Please do not think I am being rude, but I have to go right now. I hope you have the most pleasant day that you are capable of having, and that we can spend time together again soon.”

With that strange little speech, Luna let go of the brunette and literally skipped out of the room towards what she considered the next part of her destiny.
